September 3: Level I Meditation Retreat: The Art of Being Human

Fri. Sept. 3 (7-9 PM) and Sat. Sept. 4 (9-5) Shambhala Meditation Group of Columbus

Through the practice of meditation, we glimpse unconditional goodness as the ground of our existence. Opening to ourselves with gentleness and appreciation, we begin to see our potential as genuine and compassionate human beings.

Lance Brunner is an experienced teacher in the Shambhala-Buddhist tradition, having directed Shambhala Training and contemplative arts programs and retreats for over fifteen years in a variety of settings in North and South America and Europe. He served as co-chair of the Advisory Board for the Shambhala Path of Social Engagement and was a member of the International Shambhala Art Council. He combines his interests in the arts, meditation, and action in the world through his consulting and facilitation, having worked with health professionals, businesses, leadership organizations, and within prisons. A Kellogg National Fellow (1985-88) and the founding Director of the Commonwealth Fellowship Program for community leaders in Appalachia (1990-96), he has been a professor of music history at the University of Kentucky since 1976.

September 17-24: AMA Samy in Grailville

This Zen mediation retreat led by Zen Master Ama Samy, S.J., has been an annual Grailville event for more than a decade, with both new and experienced meditators traveling from throughout the country to experience an extraordinary teacher in an extraordinary setting. Both weekend and weeklong sessions are available.

Begins Friday, September 17 at 6:30 pm; the weekend program ends Sunday, September 19 at 1 pm and the weeklong program runs through Friday, September 24 at 1 pm.

AMA Samy was born in Burma to Christian parents and educated in a Buddhist environment. A Catholic priest, AMA Samy studied Zen Buddhism in Japan under the Dai-Roshi Yamada Koun. He lives and teaches at Bodhi Zendo, a meditation center in Kodai Kanal, India that he founded. He also conducts retreats in Europe, North America and Japan. He has written three books that are published in English: Zen Heart, Zen Mind, Zen: Awakening To Your Original Face, and Zen Meditation.

Meals and overnight accommodations are included in program fees. Weekend fees are $190 for double occupancy room; $235 single occupancy and $140 commuter. Weeklong fees are $450 for a single room and $300 commuter. One day commuter fee is $70. Also a “dana” (donation) directly to Fr. Ama Samy is a Zen custom. October 21: H.H. Dalai Lama at Miami University

H.H. Dalai Lama will be talking at Miami University in Oxford Ohio. The title of the talk is "Ethics in a Modern World".

Unfortunatly the talk was sold out before the tickets made it to a public sale. The Miamai University's website say that "We are working to make a small quantity of additional tickets available and hope to offer a new public sale date by mid-September. This new public sale would offer a limited number of tickets, with a per-person limit." More information here.
